Until 1996, Jamaican reggae artist Carlene Davis was a secular musician. Then she was diagnosed with cancer.

After recovering, she became a Christian and began performing gospel songs, she told nearly 200 patrons Saturday night at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium during the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College Performing Arts Series.

Almost all of the attendees were on their feet throughout the concert, lifting up their hands, singing and dancing.

Ms. Davis led the crowd through songs such as “Through it All,” “Why Me, Lord?” “These are the Days,” and many more.

Between songs, she encouraged the audience to trust in God, using her life as an example.

“It’s all about Jesus tonight,” said Ms. Davis, who ended the concert praying for patrons.
