Plays, songs and a fashion show were among the performances put on by pre-schoolers at the opening ceremony for Early Childhood Awareness Week on Sunday at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall.

Such educational activities are extremely important for students of that age, education officials said during the event.

“These are the foundation years that prepare children for learning in the future and beyond,” said Jerelyn Callwood, education officer for early childhood, in her remarks at the ceremony.

The week’s activities continued with open houses at various pre-schools on Wednesday.

Tomorrow, a parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. from the Festival Village Grounds to the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park.

The week, which is being celebrated under the theme “Literacy through the Arts,” is to culminate with a service at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Carrot Bay Seventh-day Adventist Church.
