Six months after signing a contract with Aqua Design to replace the two Virgin Gorda water plants, government announced that 200,000 imperial gallons of water were shipped to the sister island last weekend as a temporary solution to help address “water issues.”

Such supplies will be shipped to the island “intermittently over the next two weeks,” according to Government Information Services.

Communications and Works Permanent Secretary Anthony McMaster said in a GIS press release that government is “working vigorously to provide potable water to the island.”

He added that the refurbishment of the Handsome Bay water plant under way now is expected to be completed in July, and that the new plant will bring “permanent relief” to residents.
