Government can’t get into private business, but it can give breaks such as customs duty exemptions to industries it wants to boost. Last week during House of Assembly, legislators voted to expand the list of “pioneer industries” to include businesses that work with waste glass or health equipment.

Premier Dr. Orlando Smith said growing the health care industry would improve the quality of care for residents by helping create more options for secondary and tertiary care.

In the health care industry, secondary and tertiary care generally refers to specialist care such as cardiology, urology and cancer care. He also said the move would “allow us to develop our health tourism sector.”
