Virgin Gorda’s Gun Creek has been designated

as a port of entry, Premier Dr. Orlando Smith announced Thursday in a statement.

The seaport will start by clearing boat visitors, but “future development may include the re-introduction of seaplane service to and from the sister island,” Dr. Smith said.

He added, “Declaring Gun Creek as a port of entry is a catalyst for the development of a very important segment of our tourism industry.”

Dr. Smith said officers with customs, immigration and the BVI Ports Authority “are poised to provide the public with professional and exceptional service.”

In August 2010, then-Premier Ralph O’Neal, the VG representative, told the House of Assembly that his office was studying whether making Gun Creek a port of entry was feasible. Then in February 2011, Mr. O’Neal said the idea was “actively being considered,” and that he expected it to move forward as soon as some “management issues are finalised.”
