Luc Eloi, a 50-year-old Haitian, has been charged with human smuggling and illegal entry in relation to an April incident on Virgin Gorda, according to Acting Police Information Officer Beverly James.

Chief Immigration Officer Geraldine Ritter-Freeman previously confirmed that 27 migrants were detained at Biras Creek in mid-April.

Twenty-two of the migrants hailed from Haiti and five were from Cuba, Sri Lanka, the Dominican Republic, and India, according to the CIO.

The group included six women and five minors, she added.

Ms. Ritter-Freeman stated on May 2 that 22 of the migrants had since been repatriated, but explained that one was being charged in relation to the incident, and said the other four were assisting with the ongoing criminal investigation.
