A Grammy Award-winning singer, dancer and percussionist from the Ivory Coast will open H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s 17th Performing Arts Series at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium.

Dobet Gnahoré sings in a range of African languages, including Bété, Fon, Baoule, Lingala, Malinke, Mina and Bambara, according to the college.

Ms. Gnahoré says she inherited the “Bété” tradition from her father, Boni Gnahoré, a percussionist who plays with the Ivory Coast-based Ki-Yi Mbock Company.

The Performing Arts Series continues on Nov. 12 with a Virgin Islands Showcase featuring Joseph Nibbs and Shirley Crabbe.

This year, the series includes a play for the first time: Trevor Rhone’s “Old Time Story,” by the University of the Virgin Islands Theatre.
