“I’m walking in power,” sang nearly 40 H. Lavity Stoutt Community College students. “I’m walking in miracle; I live a life of favour; I know who I am.”

Some of the singers jumped up and down and others danced as they performed their last song of the night for nearly 300 people at the Eileene. L. Parsons Auditorium.

Why all the hype? The students had just completed their first official concert as the HLSCC Singers.

For close to two hours, the group, which consists of HLSCC students and faculty members, performed for a very receptive audience. For much of the performance, some concert attendees got to their feet and danced along.

Almost half an hour after the concert was over, Tessie Cordice stood outside the auditorium, tapping her feet while her telephone played a recording of one of the songs the group sang earlier.

“The concert was wonderful. I enjoyed every moment of it,” she said. “You see I’m still standing here? I wanted more of the songs.”
