An immigration officer has been removed from duty in connection with the 13 Brazilians expelled from the territory in February, said Sandra Ward, the deputy permanent secretary in the Premier’s Office.

The governor, acting on the advice of the Public Service Commission, interdicted Brian Henley from duty effective April 8, Ms. Ward said.

The PSC regulations provide that when disciplinary or criminal proceedings have been or are about to be instituted against a public officer, and “the commission is of the opinion that the public interest requires that the officer should forthwith cease to perform the functions of his office, the commission may recommend his interdiction from such performance.”

The 13 Brazilians — six men and seven women — were discovered in the Cane Garden Bay area on Feb. 11 during an investigation by customs and immigration officers. They had official entry stamps in their passports, but embarkation information was not found at the port of entry, a Government Information Services press release said at the time.
