The Dove restaurant’s Henry Cann will head to Jamaica next month to represent the Virgin Islands in a regional drink-making contest.

Mr. Cann won first place in the Stolichnaya Cocktail Competition for BVI Bartenders April 3 after a tie-breaking “mix-off” with runner-up Kyle Collins, of Peg Leg’s.

Each of the five participating bartenders had to compete in two rounds of mixing. In the first round, the bartenders were instructed to mix an update to a classic vodka cocktail, said Robert Knock, who is sponsor Caribbean Cellars’ marketing manager. In the second round, the competitors mixed cocktails they invented.

“We gave them a bottle of Stoli to practise with, but they only had about 10 days to come up with something,” Mr. Knock said. “The creativity was amazing.”
