The BVI Airports Authority officially launched its “In-Transit Lounge” at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Saturday.

The facility will serve air passengers transiting through the airport to catch connecting flights to their final destination in other countries, according to Government Information Services.

“This will impact positively on the experience of transiting passengers, as airline operators are already indicating,” Premier Andrew Fahie said in a statement released before the launch. “With increasing frequency, airlines are using our airport at Beef Island as a transit hub to other Caribbean airports, and this facility will encourage growth in this aspect of our airport business.”

The BVIAA, he added, will earn revenue through a $10 levy added to transiting passengers’ tickets.

“What is even more com- mendable is that the current [BVIAA] board and management have been able to achieve this simply by repurposing a space that was previously underutilised and conducting some renovations to the space to outfit it for this purpose,” he said.
