A 34-seat Seaborne Airlines plane touched down at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport for the first time on Tuesday afternoon.
“It was a great flight,” said Steven Delamar, who captained The Spirit of the British Virgin Islands on its inaugural flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico. “We got under the cloud deck near St. Thomas and it was just beautiful Caribbean water.”
Members of the BVI Tourist Board, along with Denniston Fraser, managing director of the BVI Airport Authority, welcomed the 14 passengers and four-member crew as they arrived in the territory and exited onto the tarmac.
Just after landing, the plane was also greeted by two fire trucks on either side of the runway that shot off a water cannon salute to celebrate the new flight.
“We just thought we’d give them a good welcome with the water salute,” Mr. Fraser said, standing next to the plane. “This is the first time bringing passengers in on this particular type of aircraft, and we’re happy to have it here.”
