The death toll from Hurricane Irma in the Virgin Islands is still five, as was reported shortly after the storm struck, Health and Social Development Minister Ronnie Skelton said during a press conference on Friday morning.

All the deaths occurred on Tortola, according to Mr. Skelton.

One of the victims has been widely reported to be Dag Samuels, a popular track coach who recently had been working with champion hurdler Kyron McMaster, but the names of others have not been disclosed, and Mr. Skelton declined to identify them on Friday.

During the press conference, ministers offered their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
