In what police described as a “significant breakthrough” in an ongoing investigation, a 17-year-old boy from Jost Van Dyke was arrested and charged recently in connection with a string of burglaries in Butu Mountain, East End, Great Mountain and Mount Healthy, police said last Thursday.

The boy was charged with one count of criminal damage and four counts of burglary, according to the Police Information Office.

Police didn’t provide further details about the alleged crimes or the arrest, but they urged community members to report any information that might help solve such crimes.

“This arrest demonstrates our commitment to addressing the concerns of our residents and ensuring that offenders are held accountable,” said acting Police Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool. “While we have made progress, our efforts will not stop here. We continue to rely on community cooperation to strengthen our crime-fighting initiatives. The involvement of so many young men in crime should be a concern for all of us in society, and it will take an all-hands-on-deck approach to solve this serious problem.”

The police are asking anyone with more information about the burglaries to contact the Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or submit tips anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers locally at 800-8477 (TIPS) or 1-284-800-8477 from overseas.
