A Jost Van Dyke man appeared at the Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to face accusations that a firearm and ammunition were found outside his residence while police were carrying out a search warrant in 2016.

Selvin Chinnery, who was represented by defence attorney Marie-Lou Creque, pleaded guilty to possession of explosives and carrying an unlicensed firearm.

Crown Counsel Herbert Potter claimed that police were executing a search warrant on the defendant’s property on April 12, 2016 in relation to a “domestic matter.”

During the search, the officers found a case outside of Mr. Chinnery’s home that contained an unloaded pistol and three rounds of ammunition, according to the Crown.

The defendant was arrested on suspicion and allegedly admitted ownership of the items during an interview with police, said Mr. Potter.

He was then charged with the offences, added the prosecutor.

Mr. Chinnery, who was placed on remand following his guilty pleas, is scheduled to return to court this week.

Ms. Creque is expected to provide the court with mitigating factors for her client at his next appearance.
