The new parking lot adjacent to Peebles Hospital in Road Town has been outfitted with LED lights as part of government’s plan to install the energy-efficient fixtures on all street poles.

The lights are lower than others in the capital because of restrictions associated with the nearby helipad, according to Government Information Services.

“The installation of the LED lights marks the completion of phase one of the parking lot project and signifies where we want to go in terms of energy conservation in the territory,” Communications and Works Minister Mark Vanterpool said. “As a government, we will lead by example, and we are confident that consumers will see the benefit of these energy conservation methods in their own homes and businesses as well.”

The first phase of the parking lot project also included drainage works, resurfacing and improved aesthetics, according to GIS.

“The second phase will see the alignment of the road to allow for a dedicated turning lane going into the hospital,” Mr. Vanterpool said.

The Road Town Rehabilitation Project seeks to beautify the capital while increasing pedestrian safety and improving parking, according to GIS.
