Pursuant to the Beacon’s editorial of last week — which gave a few suggestions for new street names — is no woman to have a street or road named after her?

Eileene Parsons and Ethlyn Smith were our two first female legislators. Perreen Georges gave the testimony that convicted Arthur Hodge. Katie Benn was a famous midwife.

Also, what about some streets in honour of Caribbean and other heroes from around the world? Personally, I like Fidel Castro Street, but would settle for Bob Marley Drive, Wilmoth Blyden Road, Marcus Garvey Road, Rosa Parks Street, Nelson Mandela Drive, etcetera.

Or streets could be named after our regional neighbours or after their national flowers. Let’s think!

Of course, I’d have thought that consumer protection legislation or the freedom of information act would be seen as higher priorities.
