Twenty people were inducted into the Lions Club of Tortola and its newly launched branch during a ceremony at The Moorings Mariner Inn conference room last Thursday.

As part of efforts to encourage younger people to join, the club’s board of directors recently approved the formation of the “Tortola Central Club Branch,” according to the Lions.

Following orientation sessions with Lions Hesketh Newton and Clovelle Stevens, the following founding members of the branch were inducted and installed: Ottley Hodge, president; Rawlston Williams II, vice president; Shaunice Leonard, secretary; Ovry John, assistant secretary; Carlene Corea, treasurer; Dominique Maloney, assistant treasurer; Venner Williams, “tail twister;” Brian Farrington, “tamer;” Amorrell Newton and Eustace Freeman, directors; Desron Brannigan, Leo advisor; and members Carl Benjamin, Kashima Callwood, Khalid Frett, Terence Gumbs and Donald Hanley.

The ceremonies were conducted by Marvin Grant, council chairman of Districts 60A and 60B.

Additionally, four members were inducted into the Lions Club of Tortola: Violet DeCastro, Kedrick Malone, Melissa Stoutt and Natalio “Sowande” Wheatley.

All told, this brings to 23 the number of new members recently joining the Lions following the earlier inductions of Dr. Arthur Richardson, Lambert Wickham and Oral Wilson.

The Lions Club of Tortola meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month, while the Club Branch members will meet on Thursdays at the “Lions Den” in Johnson Ghut.
