A man accused of wounding someone with a pair of scissors is scheduled to stand trial on April 20.

New York City native Ivan “Yankee” Govia, a Long Bush resident, pleaded not guilty to wounding on Thursday in Magistrates’ Court.

According to the allegations, Mr. Govia was in an argument with another man over a ladder when he attacked him with orange-handled scissors in August 2013.

The alleged victim was treated at Peebles Hospital with lacerations on his forehead, shoulders, right arm, and lower back.

Mr. Govia was arrested when police found him at the Crabbe Lot, and during a police interview he allegedly admitted to slicing the man.

The defendant told the court that the alleged victim attacked him first, punching him in the face.

Mr. Govia will represent himself in the trial.
