The trial of Aeon Smith, who was accused of stealing cable wire from the BVI Electricity Corporation, came to a quick close on Friday after the Crown failed to produce the necessary witnesses needed for the case to continue.

Without the witnesses, Senior Crown Counsel Valston Graham said the prosecution had no other evidence against the defendant.

Under the direction of Vicki Ann Ellis, the jury returned a not guilty verdict, and Mr. Smith left the High Court a free man.

Mr. Smith, who was arrested in June 2011, was accused by the Crown of stealing $12,500 worth of cable wires from the BVIEC.

He was represented by defence attorney Patrick Thompson.
