Shawn Scatliffe had some harsh words for his ex-girlfriend in early April, according to Crown prosecutors: “If you don’t take me back I will end your life,” he allegedly told her.

Mr. Scatliffe pleaded not guilty to four counts of threatening language and guilty to one count of insulting language in Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The defendant was granted bail in March after appearing in court facing assault charges involving the same complainant, who is 19 years old. Part of his bail conditions required him to stay away from the woman, Crown Counsel Jude Hanley said, adding that he “allegedly broke” those conditions.

“It’s a serious, serious pattern of behaviour,” Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens said, before denying bail and remanding Mr. Scatliffe to Her Majesty’s Prison.

According to defence attorney Marie-Lou Creque, Mr. Scatliffe is the father of five children, who he supports. He currently works at The Auto Spot in Fish Bay.

Ms. Creque argued that her client should be offered bail, adding, “There’s two sides to every story.”
