Kenroy Davis, 25, pleaded guilty in High Court last Thursday to “handling” a vehicle stolen from the Hertz car rental facility in Trellis Bay, as the second day of his trial was about to begin.

Prosecutors dropped an additional theft charge following Mr. Davis’ guilty plea.

The vehicle, a green four-door Chevrolet Tracker, was noticed missing on Jan. 23, 2009, testified Jennylyn Ocampo, who was then a rental agent at Hertz. Ms. Ocampo initially didn’t think it was stolen, since the key was still stored with other rental car keys, she said.

It was listed as rented in the company’s computer system, but the system was often not properly updated, she testified. Ultimately, after Ms. Ocampo consulted with her supervisor, the company reported the car’s disappearance to the police, she said.

At the time, Ms. Ocampo had no knowledge of who could have taken the vehicle, she said under cross-examination by Mr. Davis’ lawyer, Ruthilia Maximea.
