A man was charged Friday in relation to the Feb. 16 attempted robbery outside of FirstCaribbean Bank, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

Matthew Hazel, 23, of Paraquita Bay, was charged with attempted murder and attempted robbery.

The charges stem from an incident where Mr. Hazel allegedly tried to rob an off-duty police officer who was making a cash deposit at the Road Town bank around midnight on Feb. 16.

Shots were exchanged during the incident, according to Ms. Drayton, and the robber fled.

A man later went to Peebles Hospital with gunshot wounds, she said.

The information officer said investigations into the incident are ongoing and that people with information are encouraged to call the Major Crime Team at 468-5682.
