Alleged victim hospitalised

A Purcell Estate resident faces charges after a stabbing on the morning of Aug. 31 on the neighbourhood’s basketball court left a man with several puncture wounds, police said last Thursday.

After the incident, officers of the police Criminal Investigation Team arrested 33-year-old Selroy Hanley and charged him with wounding with intent and being armed with an offensive weapon, according to the Police Information Office.

The charge of wounding with intent carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, the PIO stated.

As of last Thursday, the male victim was in serious but stable condition and was receiving treatment at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital, police said. Police Information Officer Diane Drayton told the Beacon on Tuesday that the victim remained hospitalised.

Mr. Hanley was due to appear before the Magistrates’ Court at the next available sitting, police added last Thursday.
