A lifelong friendship between Nickail Chambers and Corey Prince recently crashed, leaving Mr. Chambers to answer a charge of attempted murder for allegedly shooting at Mr. Prince after a fight, a prosecutor said on Wednesday at the Johns Hole Magistrates’ Court.

While the pair were having a conversation at Belle Vue on June 22, Mr. Prince’s hand made contact with Mr. Chambers’ and that infuriated the accused, Crown Counsel Garcia Kelly told the court.

Mr. Chambers then punched the complainant and held him in a headlock, but the two were separated and restrained, Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards was told.

However, Mr. Prince managed to punch Mr. Chambers once more before returning to his place of employment — a scooter sales establishment on Fort Hill, Mr. Kelly said.

Mr. Chambers, who is represented by attorney Stephen Daniels, was later seen driving by the workplace on a pink scooter, according to the prosecutor.

He then returned driving a brown jeep, and shot a gun several times in Mr. Prince’s direction, Mr. Kelly alleged.

Mr. Prince ran for cover down the hill and emerged at Free Bottom, according to the Crown.
Police reported to the scene and later reviewed the incident through CCTV footage that identified Mr. Chambers as the shooter, the prosecutor said.

On July 10, Mr. Chambers turned himself in to police, who later searched his home in Lower Estate and collected items as evidence.
During a police interview, Mr. Chambers — who formerly worked as a labourer but is now unemployed — declined to answer officers’ questions, Mr. Kelly said.

Ms. Richards yielded to the Crown’s objection to bail, calling Mr. Chambers’ criminal record “one of the poorest” she’s seen in “a long time.”
Mr. Chambers was then remanded to prison. He is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 29.
