James Leonard Sr., 38, who was found floating in the waters off Cooper Island, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Peebles Hospital on Wednesday, according to Acting Police Information Officer Beverly James.

Police are investigating the death, said Ms. James.

Gerard Kraakman, the board president of Virgin Islands Search and Rescue, confirmed on Friday that seven of the organisation’s volunteers responded to the scene after they received a call for assistance at 4:22 p.m.

VISAR members attempted to resuscitate Mr. Leonard as they transported him to the hospital, said Mr. Kraakman.

Despite their efforts, Mr. Leonard remained unresponsive.

He arrived at the hospital at 5 p.m., added Mr. Kraackman.
