A man was injured in a shooting at Johns Hole near the Road Town Police Station shortly after 9 p.m. on Friday, police said.

The victim — who the National Security Council later identified as Jeron Romney — was transported to the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital, where he was warded and undergoing treatment as of Saturday, police said.

They have not provided further information or announced any arrests since then, though the NSC met Monday and provided a brief update afterwards.

At the meeting, Police Commissioner Mark Collins updated NSC members on the Friday shooting and on reports of more gunshots heard in the Huntums Ghut area on Saturday and Sunday, according to a Monday NSC statement.

Mr. Collins reportedly said investigations had not confirmed the nature of the more recent incidents.

“The NSC undertook to remain updated on these matters and return to a fuller discussion later this week,” the statement noted. “The NSC thanked the many persons in the community who have come forward to assist the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force with this investigation.”

The council also urged anyone who had contact with Mr. Romney over the weekend to call the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline by dialling 800-8477 [TIPS] in the territory or 800-847-8477 from abroad. Police can also be reached directly at 368-9339.

Meanwhile, the NSC called for calm in the territory despite recent gun violence.

“The NSC remains committed to introducing measures and any relevant legislation to bring resolution to this and all other unsolved crimes,” the statement added.
The NSC includes the governor as chairman, the premier, and the communications and works minister, as well as the attorney general and police commissioner as ex-officio members.
