A man remained missing yesterday after a boat reportedly capsized in the Sir Francis Drake Channel on Tuesday evening, a Virgin Islands Search and Rescue member explained.

VISAR responded to a call around 5:30 p.m. and reached the scene at 5:55, according to Phil Aspinall, a member of the organisation. The crew retrieved one man from the water, who, though mentally shaken, was physically okay, Mr. Aspinall said.

The other man, however, could not be located, and VISAR searched the surrounding area until 9 p.m.

Yesterday morning, they resumed at 6 a.m., and they were still searching when this reporter reached out four hours later.

“We’re always hopeful,” Mr. Aspinall said.

The boat appeared to have left either Road Harbour or Sea Cows Bay and was travelling westward, Mr. Aspinall explained.

After VISAR pulled the rescued man from the water, a local boat that had approached the scene agreed to take him to Peebles Hospital while the search-and-rescue team continued to scour the area, he said.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force secured the flipped boat, Mr. Aspinall added.
