A man was shot in the back shortly after midnight last Thursday at Elm’s Bar in Baughers Bay, police said.

The victim was in stable condition as of Monday afternoon and continued to receive treatment at Peebles Hospital.

Three days later, at around 11 p.m. on Sunday, three armed, masked men entered Paradise Bar in Cane Garden Bay, demanding money and robbing the establishment, police said.

At least three gunshots were allegedly fired in the air, but no injuries were reported.

Police Information Officer Diane Drayton divulged information about both incidents in a press release on Monday.

Police are urging residents to come forward to help identify the assailants, or point law enforcement officials to the location of their firearms.

Acting Police Commissioner Alwin James said cooperation with police is especially important in the lead-up to the August Emancipation Festival.

“After our struggles through these last difficult months, it is important that our Festival celebrations not be marred by those who have no [conscience] and little regard for affected business owners, their patrons or the needs of the community on a whole,” Mr. James said. “Please [assist] us with any information that can help in identifying the perpetrators in these incidents.”
