Hope Hill resident Roland Simon is to stand trial in January for allegedly assaulting a police officer at the Festival Village in July.

Prosecutors said Mr. Simon was in a fight at around 1:30 a.m. on July 27. When police tried to intervene and stop the altercation, he pulled away from an officer and started to walk towards the Village exit, according to Crown Counsel Herbert Potter.

Officers followed and told him to stop, but he continued to walk away, Mr. Potter said.

When police Sergeant Shawn Henry caught up to Mr. Simon, the defendant allegedly pushed him in the chest.

Mr. Henry and another officer subdued him and then arrested him, Mr. Potter said.

“Officer, I’m sorry. Give me a break,” Mr. Simon allegedly said when taken to Road Town Police Station. “I just want to go home to sleep.”

Though Mr. Henry is the complainant in the case, he might not testify because he is currently interdicted from the police force, according to statements made in court.
