Police on Thursday charged Dion Stevens, 33, of Scatliffe Alley, with manslaughter in relation to a fatal boat collision in February, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

Mr. Stevens was captaining a 37-foot charter boat with cruise ship passengers towards the cruise pier tender dock when he allegedly collided with a 17-foot Boston whaler.

The smaller boat’s sole occupant, Jose Angel Titley, was thrown into the water but rescued while still conscious, Ms. Drayton said.

However, he lost consciousness while being transported to the tender dock, and efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

He was pronounced dead at Peebles Hospital.

No passengers of the cruise ship tender sustained injury.

Mr. Stevens was scheduled to appear Friday at Magistrates’ Court.
