Venezuelan worker falls to his death at U.P.’s

Jose Silva, a 38-year-old Venezuelan, died Sunday evening after falling off a scaffolding while working on the exterior of the U.P.’s Cineplex, according to Police Information Officer Akia Thomas.

Police received a report of the incident midday and responded to the scene shortly after, Ms. Thomas said.

Mr. Silva was pronounced dead at Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital after 6 p.m., she added.

There have been no criminal charges or accusations of misconduct made in relation to the death, Ms. Thomas said.

Asked why the PIO did not send out a press release following Mr. Silva’s death, Ms. Thomas said, “I have been answering inquiries as they come in.”
