Communications and Works Minister Mark Vanterpool gave an update on the cruise pier expansion project Monday at the House of Assembly, explaining that the total cost of the development has exceeded $80 million – nearly $30 million more than the originally estimated cost of $53 million.

Mr. Vanterpool explained that the marine side of the project cost $36,850,000, and that the landside has cost $37,032,690.

An additional $9 million for “administrative costs” has pushed the total bill to $82.9 million, he said.

The original project plans projected the marine side portion of the project to cost about $30.4 million, and the landside $23,032,000.

Mr. Vanterpool said his ministry will produce a full operational budget for the public in the near future.
