Dozens of moustachioed pirates took the stage — a makeshift pirate ship — at Nanny Cay Saturday during the End of Movember party and awards ceremony.
Birch Burton Lettsome, also known as DJ Bertrum, took the Man of Movember award after documenting the growth of his moustache on social networking sites and promoting the cause on the radio.
Movember Worldwide is an independent global charity that challenges men throughout the world to sprout moustaches and raise funds and awareness about the prevention of prostate and testicular cancer and mental health.
On Tuesday, the BVI Movember Charitable Trust had already raised more than $20,000, according to board member and organiser Scott Hart.
“It’s a great thing to be a part of,” Mr. Hart said. “The money they raise throughout the world is having a real impact. In the last five years there has been more [prostate cancer] research done than in the last 50.”
Mr. Hart stressed the support of the community and the Governor’s Office.
