When Quito Rymer heard the BVI Music Festival was cancelled this year, he had one thought.

“There must be music on the beach,” he said Friday. “We love the beach. We love the music. So how about Music on the Beach?”

For Mr. Rymer, the annual event was too important to the Cane Garden Bay community to skip entirely, added Donna Arter, manager at Quito’s Gazebo.

“Quito was talking about doing something later in the year,” Ms. Arter said.

But he worried that without the concert, some United States visitors planning to spend their Memorial Day long weekend in the territory might cancel their trips.

That meant there wasn’t much time to organise, Ms. Arter said, but she was pleased with how the new event came together, from last Thursday’s “meet the artists” reception to the two nights of live music that followed.

“It went off without a hitch,” Ms. Arter said, later adding that they expect to hold an even bigger concert next year over the same weekend.
