Following an increase in improper trash dumping across the territory, the Department of Waste Management is warning residents to clean up their act.

“We want the public to refrain from disposing of bulk items besides communal bins,” said DWM Deputy Director Levi Benjamin. “We are urging residents to take bulky waste directly to the designated dumpsite for each respective island.”

He also reminded Tortola businesses that they are required to dump their bulk waste directly at the trash facility in Pockwood Pond.

“Currently as a department, we are continuing to explore responsible and sustainable waste management options for the Virgin Islands,” he said. “We request that residents ensure to the proper disposal of waste, which plays a vital role in keeping the territory clean, green and pristine.”

The department asked all residents to promote proper dumping of bulk waste and to report infractions by calling 468-4934 or emailing dwm@gov.vg.
