Charges have yet to be filed against six males between the ages of 12 and 18 who allegedly set fire to a man thought to be homeless near the Rite Way Supermarket in Pasea, police said.

The six accused, who allegedly doused the man in flammable liquid before setting him on fire on March 8, were arrested and discharged pending advice from the director of public prosecutions, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

The suspects, she added, “had to be processed under the Children and Young Persons Act.”

The victim, whose name has not been released, has been in the hospital recovering from first-, second-, and third-degree burns to his right leg and foot, according to BVI Health Services Authority Communications Officer Franka Potter.

She said he’s in stable condition and will remain in the hospital until he makes a full recovery.

Attempts to obtain more information from the DPP’s Office were unsuccessful.
