A 21-year-old man was arrested and charged after police responded to a burglary report at a villa on Virgin Gorda shortly after 9 p.m. on June 18, police said.
Keithroy Smith, 21, of Windy Hill, Virgin Gorda, was in custody pending his appearance at the Magistrates’ Court as of Friday, when the Police Information Office issued a press release about the incident.
“We are also pleased to report that some of the stolen items have been recovered, and efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining property,” the release stated, adding that police are “committed to ensuring the safety and security of the Virgin Gorda community.”
Police did not state the location of the burglary or provide other information about it.
The incident follows a string of other crimes on Virgin Gorda.
The Bath and Turtle Restaurant in Spanish Town was robbed at gunpoint on the evening of June 7, and the lone perpetrator escaped with $250, police said at the time.
No arrests have been announced.
Leverick Bay incident
The Bath and Turtle robbery came less than two weeks after an attempted armed robbery shortly after 1 p.m. on May 26 at Leverick Bay Resort while the Leverick Bay Poker Run was under way.
“According to reports, two masked gunmen entered an office at the resort, held the manager at gunpoint, and demanded cash,” police said at the time. “The suspects eventually fled empty-handed.”
The manager was subsequently treated for injuries sustained during the robbery attempt.
Police later said they had arrested and questioned three people following searches carried out in connection with the Leverick Bay incident, but all three were released without charges.
