Representatives for the attorney general and the superyacht Parsifal III, which allegedly spilled about 30 tonnes of lead into Virgin Islands waters when it crashed into Carrot Shoal, were given another six months to reach a settlement before they’re forced to proceed to trial.

High Court Justice Vicki-Ann Ellis granted the two parties a final adjournment on Monday, adding that she will order them to proceed with the trial if they can’t reach a settlement by Nov. 10.

It was said in court that the case involves Parsifal III challenging the constitutionality of a provision in the VI Merchant Shipping Act.

However, no one in court explained exactly what provision of the law is being challenged.

Parsifal III attorney Hazelann Hannaway-Boreland declined to comment, and High Court Registry officials said the case documents are not available to the public.

Presumably, Parsifal III will drop its challenge if it reaches a settlement with the government.
