Government officials publicly recognised the historical significance of four Road Town buildings during a ceremony held today at St. George’s Episcopal Church.

After the ceremony, plaques were unveiled at the former prison, the Fireproof Building, the J.E.W. Georges Compound and the St. George’s church hall.

The ceremony was held jointly by the Millennium History Committee and the Premier’s Office.

“A lot of history is in these buildings,” Premier Ralph O’Neal said. “I am happy that we are commemorating the buildings so that both locals and visitors will get to know more about the history of the Virgin Islands.”

Jennie Wheatley, a member of the Millennium History Committee, spoke briefly about the historical significance of the four sites.
