Police Constable Kimbelie Lewis, 31, a native of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, was pronounced dead on Thursday at Peebles Hospital, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

Ms. Drayton said that the officer fell ill at her home and was unresponsive by the time she arrived at the hospital.

The information officer said members of the police force gathered at the hospital to pay their respects and mourn the loss.

“I am grieved over the loss of Constable Lewis. She proved and surpassed all my expectations of her when she was first interviewed to become a police officer in this force,” said Police Commissioner David Morris. “From the beginning of her short two-year tenure, she gave of her best with an extraordinary manner and attitude.”

Mr. Morris added that the constable had received several letters of commendation. Ms. Lewis was appointed to the police force in August 2012 after transferring here from the SVG Police Force. She last served as an officer of the Immediate Response Team.

The cause of death has yet to be determined, Ms. Drayton said.

Ms. Lewis is the second police officer in the territory to die this year. In early March, Inspector Leonard Fahie was also pronounced dead at Peebles Hospital.
