Following online news reports last Thursday of a stabbing at Her Majesty’s Prison, Police Information Officer Diane Drayton stated on Tuesday that police are investigating “the matter.”

However, Ms. Drayton did not confirm or deny a stabbing, and she declined to comment further. Prison Superintendent Guy Hill did not respond to repeated requests for comment, and officials at the Deputy Governor’s Office declined to comment.

A stabbing at HMP would not be the first in recent months.

Last May, inmate Nickail Chambers died after he was stabbed during an altercation at the prison. As of September, five inmates, two prison officers, and one formerly interdicted police officer had been charged in connection with the death and sub-sequent investigation.
