Seven policemen standing, seven police walking on the ground,” Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre students sang on Tuesday as they awaited the arrival of police officers.

The officers were scheduled to speak with them about their work in the community as part of activities ongoing during Police Week, which kicked off on Sunday.

The week is being observed under the theme, “An Investment in the Youth Today will Ensure our Community is Brighter Tomorrow.”

By the time the officers arrived, the students had learned how to march and salute from teacher Jacqueline Nibbs.

During a presentation that lasted for about 45 minutes, the officers spoke about the different departments in the force.

Officer Starcy Huggins answered some students’ questions about fingerprints. “No two people have the same fingerprints,” Ms. Huggins said.

Then Brian Penn, an investigator and K-9 handler, performed a search along with the dog Ciro.

Also as part of the week’s activities, police will host “The Best of the BVI Talent Show” at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College. Devon Jennings, Leilani Stevens, Jeremy Vanterpool and UMI models are scheduled to perform.

A football match will be held at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds from 4 p.m. the next day.
