With the Christmas season underway, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force sent out a reminder to the public that written permission must be granted for playing amplified music at any public or private event.

The Noise Control and Abatement Act requires permission from the Commissioner of Police to host any party or event where music will be played at a volume that is likely to disturb or annoy neighbours. Requests must be submitted ten days in advance of the event.

Under the law, licenced establishments such as bars and restaurants can operate as late as midnight every night except Sunday, when they must close by 9 p.m. Permission must be granted in writing to remain open beyond these prescribed hours.

All operating licences, special licences or signed permission letters must be available and on site in case of police inquiries.
