The Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour is working on land reclamation for the Brandywine Bay Development, and officials hope the whole project will be completed by October, according to MNRL Permanent Secretary Ronald Smith-Berkeley.

The land reclamation portion of the development is expected to last for three more weeks, Mr. Smith-Berkeley said this week.

On Monday, an empty excavator sat parked on the dig site while barges with machinery were positioned to dredge off the shoreline.

The MNRL began work on the development last October, but started without permission from the Town and Country Planning Department. On Nov. 2, the TCPD ordered the ministry to halt work pending approval.

In December, however, Chief Planner Gregory Adams told the Beacon the MNRL had submitted the required information and was allowed to resume work, but further delays ensued.

According to the ministry’s planning application, the $300,000 project will include 35 parking spaces, eight vendor spaces and other amenities designed to attract tourists.

“It enhances tourism,” Mr. Smith-Berkeley said. “It provides a place of recreation for visitors and residents.”
