Robert Swain Sr., 56, of Sand Box Road, appeared in Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with bribery by a public official, police said.

Mr. Swain’s arrest was the result of an investigation into a contract issued by the Ministry of Transportation, Works and Utilities, which was formerly the Ministry of Communications and Works, according to the Police Information Office.

Mr. Swain, who in the past has worked for telecommunications companies in the territory, is a senior administrative officer in the ministry, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The time of Mr. Swain’s appearance in court on Tuesday was not publicly announced, and this newspaper did not have a reporter there at the time.

Attempts to obtain more information from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions yesterday were not immediately successful.

Police said that Mr. Swain was granted $70,000 bail and ordered to return to Magistrates’ Court on May 9. They added that investigations are ongoing and that no other information could be released.
