A woman police found Sunday afternoon after she had been missing for 48 hours slipped into a coma early Monday morning at Peebles Hospital. By Monday afternoon she had awakened, but was still suffering from kidney malfunction, according to a resident who assisted with the rescue effort.

Sherene “Sherry” Petersen, who suffers from early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease, had been stuck in the bush near lower Hope Hill with her legs trapped between a rock and a tree, and spent hours at a 60-degree incline with her head facing down, said Cat Clayton, who, along with her mother Cindy, helped raise the alarm after the woman wandered away from their Tamarind Club.

Ms. Petersen was alert when police and volunteer searchers found her Sunday afternoon. Doctors have said that Ms. Petersen is likely to make a full recovery after undergoing dialysis treatment, Cat Clayton said, adding that soon Ms. Petersen will be moved to a facility in Puerto Rico to undergo further treatment.
