A ferry transporting passengers from Scrub Island to Trellis Bay ran aground Friday morning, said Martin Smith, the managing director of Scrub Island Resort.

At about 6:40 a.m. Friday, the Scrub Island I was transporting five guests and a resort waitress to Beef Island, when it ran aground on rocks near Marina Cay after an apparent steering malfunction, Mr. Smith said.

“The boat has been towed to the yard so it can be repaired and we can figure out what happened,” he said.

The captain, Olando “Buju” Bonnick, injured his knee and hip from the impact, and the waitress fractured her shoulder in the collision, he said.

Scrub Island staff retrieved the passengers in another boat and transported the guests, who were uninjured, to the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, he said.
