They were among the recipients of 150 dictionaries distributed in six primary schools around the territory as part of Rotary Literacy Month.

During a press conference held at The Moorings on Tuesday, Rotary Club of Road Town President Ryan Geluk presented more books to Wendy Kelsick, government’s acting deputy chief librarian.

He also listed some of the club’s other ongoing projects, including an Alzheimer’s awareness campaign and a partnership with the Department of Disaster Management to disseminate information about disaster preparedness.

Both programmes, he said, are related to literacy.

“Literacy doesn’t only refer to the ability to read and write,” he said. “We must also consider areas such as literacy in knowing what to do in case of disasters; literacy to recognise and understand the effects of diseases.”
