A masked gunman wearing a black hoodie robbed Rite Way supermarket on Flemming Street in Road Town at about 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

The assailant demanded that one of the cash registers be opened, and then took the cash pan and fled the scene, Ms. Drayton said.

Police did not say how much money was stolen.

The robber appeared to be in his 20s, and was about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a slim build, according to police reports.

He was described as being black and reportedly spoke with a “local accent,” according to Ms. Drayton.

No shots were fired during the robbery, and no one was injured in the incident, said the information officer.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Information about the robbery can be reported to the Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or to the Criminal Investigations Department at 311.
